Deuteronomy 30:19 …..I’ve set before you today, life and death, blessings and curses. That you may choose life, that all may be well with you and your desendents….

The soul. Our mind, will, and emotions. This is the part of us that causes so many of our problems and our lack of peace and happiness. It is the part of us that will need to be worked on our entire lives. It is also the part of our being that the enemy knows if he can influence it he can cause destruction in us.

Our spirit- our heart is where Jesus came to live in us and made perfect and Holy. It is the part of us that the Holy Spirit directs us from. And it is the part of us that God created us to be before sin was released into all of us. I look at it as our spirit is who we really are- who we truly desire to be, where our true desires are, and where our full potential resides. It is the part of us that God sees when he looks at us. And it is the part of us, that if we live by it, we will have the best life.

All the mess that we have going on in our soul are the things that make our lives not so peaceful or enjoyable. Since God wants us to enjoy our lives he let’s us know the things that are in the way. It’s not that he is fussing at us, mad at us, disappointed in us, or putting us down when he is trying to correct us. He knows what it is that is causing our troubles and how we can enjoy every moment of our lives no matter what the circumstances are and he let’s let’s know what it is so that we have a choice. Our choice is up to us and no matter what we choose he will never leave us nor forsake us. If we decide to continue to live in the mess of our soul he will be right there with us, but still wanting us to choose differently.

Obedience to God’s direction is the only way that we will not live in misery. All throughout the Bible it talks about if we do what God says we will be blessed and have life but if we do what sin says we won’t. He has set before us life and death, blessings and curses, that we may CHOOSE life. It is a choice that we get to make. And Jesus came so that we may have life in abundance, to the full, until it overflows. So since Jesus lives in our spirit we can choose to have life.

We have to pay attention to what we got going on in our soul. We have to pay attention to the thoughts we think, what we are doing and the desires we have, and the feelings that we feel. If any of those things are not producing life and goodness in us then we need to make a change. If we sense God pointing out something that is not serving us peace and joy then we need to work on it. Obiding in God is the way to enjoy every day of our lives. Living by the Spirit produces ever flowing life and living by the soul produces death and destruction. The choice is ours to make.
