Power of our words

JAMES 3:5&6 “In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.“NIV

Our words are so powerful as explained in James 3:5&6. We can do so much damage with our mouth. We can even hinder a persons faith with our tongue if we are not careful. If someone looks up to you as a spiritual leader and they hear you use Gods name in vein, or talking about what so&so had on in church that day, or if they hear you tell a “little white lie”, then that person could possibly start to look at other bother and sisters in Christ or even Christianity in a whole, a little different. Just that quick, in a matter of seconds, all that teaching on peace, love, and joy that person had been hearing has suddenly been hindered in a way.

Our words can hurt someone, make someone mad, and even make that person want to commit acts of violence. They can even be so harmful and cause so much pain, that our words could cause someone to take their own life or attempt to. We can also make a person happy or at least put a smile on their face with words of encouragement. They can be comforting and kind to someone that is down. Think about it, we can lie, cheat, and steal with just our WORDS! So the tongue is of all wickedness of this world, but I believe that it can also be of the goodness of Jesus Christ as well. It’s all on what words you use. We must think about our words before we open our mouths and let the tongue move and try our very best to only let goodness flow from our lips!!
