As a Christian the bible says that we are the light of the world. It says to come out from the darkness and shine your light. But what does that mean? What does it mean to let your light shine? And how can you shine in the world if your light is dim?

I believe that letting our light shine means to live in the world by making good choices. It means doing what I’d right and good. It is telling the truth in love. It is being kind to those who are less fortunate than you. It is putting the shopping cart back where it belongs. It is doing what you say you are going to do. It is not talking about people. It is helping others. It is keeping calm in a intense situation. It is not passing judgement on anyone. It is giving a compliment to someone. It is not complaining. It is treating others the way that you want to be treated, even when they treat you wrong. It is not compromising in doing what you know you should do just to please others.

We have to be willing to be different than the world. We have to be willing to not be accepted by some if we are going to let our light shine in this dark world. We have to be willing to walk alone if we have to. We have to be willing to stand up for what is right. And we have to be willing to be rejected by some people if we are going to truly shine our light. It has always helped me to remember that they rejected and mocked Jesus so of course they will do the same to me.

With all of the hatred and hurt in the world right now we need to shine our light. We need.to spread love. We need to share peace. And we need to show compassion. Our lights may be the hope for a better tomorrow that someone needs. It may be the evidence that someone needs that there is a God. It may even bring a person to a relationship with Jesus.

We are to be the examples of goodness for Jesus. There is no telling what God can do through us when we let our light shine. And the joy that we bring to our own heart when we let our light shine is unlike any other. There is a great feeling that comes along with doing what is right and good. So let your light shine bright in this dark world and always do good.
