Inner Life/Outter Life

Did you know that there are two forms of life? There is the inner life and the outter life. In a sense you could look at it as we are two people living in one body. How is that so, you ask. Our outter life is the part of us that we reveal to others. It consist of things such as the way that we dress, the car we drive, the home we live in, our family and friends, the behavior that we display, the job that we have. It is what can be seen about ourselves. Our inner life is what is on the inside of us. It is our thoughts, feelings, self-image, beliefs, values. It is what resides in our heart. And if our inner life is not happy, peaceful, satisfied, or complete, the rest of our life will be affected. And no matter how good our outter life seems to be, if our inner life is lacking in some area(s), we will not be able to have the best life possible. It is our inner life that matters. There is no amount of material things, people, success, or money that can fulfill our inner life.

Our inner life has a lot to do with the relationship that we have with ourselves. It is the part of us that our true self resides. It is our conscience, our morals, our values, and our beliefs. It is the deepest part of our hearts. It is the part of us that was created by God before life, experiences, influences, and culture molded us into something different. And if we are going to live a life that we absolutely love and enjoy we are going to have to get in alignment with who we were created to be. We have to love, enjoy, nurture, respect, and honor the inner part of our being if we are going to love, enjoy, nurture, respect, and honor our lives. We can have everything that a person could ever want in life and still not be happy or satisfied with life if we are not complete in our inner life. If we are not living up to the potential that God put in us we will feel like something is missing. If we do not live up to the moral and value codes that God put in us we will feel unfulfilled. God created each and everyone of us with gifts, talents, and abilities that if we are not using them we feel incomplete.

Our inner life can filled with all of the wrong stuff throughout life as we experience negative situations, heart break, mental or emotional abuse, lack of love and nurture, and all the crummy things that can happen to or around us. Then we have the devil that uses those things to put lies about ourselves in our head that weighs on our self-esteem and belief in our potential. From past experiences of what someone else has said or done to us we can form a belief about ourselves that completely derails our life’s course. And until we reform the correct belief about ourselves we will never be able to reach that level of being completely satisfied. If you feel like you can’t ride a bike chances are that you will not even try to ride it right? You think that you can not do it so there is no need to try to. If you feel that you do not matter or aren’t of importance then you will allow others to treat you in ways that you do not deserve because you do not feel that you deserve any better (which is not true). If you think that you are not smart then you will not take the classes that you need to take to get the education that you dream of because you do not think that you can pass the class. See how our beliefs about ourselves can derail us? We accept way less for ourselves than what we were created for and that causes our inner life to not be so great.

There nothing in our outter life that can fully and completely satisfy us. Sure it may make us happy for a period of time, but that void that were trying to fill inside will come back. Then we are on the search for the next thing that we think that we need to fulfill us. It is a vicious cycle that we keep going around time and time again, in search of the next thing to make us happy or complete. But the truth is that happiness, completeness, fulfillment, starts with the inner life. And when we are complete inside we will see that nothing from the outside can bring that level of wholeness to us. So I ask you today, how is your inner life? Don’t sell yourself short by focusing on the outter life of yourself because if you do you will never be able to experience all that God wants you to experience.
