When will I see the harvest

When we think about the principal of seedtime, sow, and harvest we can get encouraged and then quickly get discouraged if we do not understand the principal fully. See we seem to think that as soon as we plant the seed we should see the harvest. Living in the world of instant gratification that we live in we like to see results as soon as we put in the minimum amount of work. But that is not how things work most of the time. We have to look at how farming works to understand this principal fully. That is why the bible uses farming to illustrate the principal so often. When a farmer plants his seeds in the field what does he have to do next? He has to wait right. And what does he have to do while he is waiting? He has to tend to the crop, take care of it, and trust in God to nourish it with water. Then after awhile, if he has taken care of the crop, putting in the hard work, he will have a harvest to pick. It is the same for us.

We can’t create a website for our business and think that it is going to “just take off”. We can’t get married and expect to “just have” a wonderful marriage. We can’t expect to give a dollar and “get” a hundred back. We can’t expect to do a little and receive a lot, period.

We have to put in work, time, and effort in everything that we do. We have to be patient while we are waiting for our harvest. Sometimes we have to put in a lot of work, a lot of money, and wait a long time, but if we are faithful (trust God) and stick with it, we will eventually see our harvest. We have to be willing to make sacrifices if we want to ever see our harvest. The farmer sacrifices sleep, time with his family, his energy, his wants, his feelings, his money, because he knows that he has to if he wants to have a harvest to plow. And it is the same for us. Don’t grow weary in the growing season because it will come if we do our part, trust in God, and be patient.
